Our Local Indigenous
engagement and acknowledgement of traditional land owners
At Fleurieu Civil & Construction, we recognize and acknowledge the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which we operate, the Ramindjeri or Raminjeri people. The Ramindjeri people are an integral part of the Kukabrak grouping, now known as the Ngarrindjeri people, who have inhabited this land for thousands of years.
We deeply respect the rich cultural heritage and profound connection the Ramindjeri people have with the land and water in southern South Australia, including Encounter Bay, Goolwa, Victor Harbor, and Port Elliot. We acknowledge their ongoing stewardship and custodianship of this land, which spans generations and holds immense significance to their spiritual, cultural, and historical identity.
As a pipeline construction company, we understand the importance of responsible and sustainable practices when working on this land. We are committed to engaging in meaningful consultation and collaboration with the Ramindjeri people and other traditional owner groups to ensure that our projects respect their cultural values, protect sacred sites, and mitigate any potential impact on the land and water.
Furthermore, we strive to incorporate traditional ecological knowledge and practices into our construction processes, where appropriate, to enhance environmental sustainability and preserve the integrity of this sacred land. We aim to foster positive relationships with the Ramindjeri people based on trust, respect, and mutual understanding, guided by the principles of reconciliation and cultural preservation.
Fleurieu Civil & Construction is dedicated to promoting reconciliation and supporting the aspirations of the Ramindjeri people and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. We are committed to ongoing education and awareness within our organization to ensure that respect for Indigenous culture and heritage remains at the forefront of our operations.
We acknowledge that true reconciliation is an ongoing journey, and we are committed to continually learning, evolving, and deepening our understanding of the Ramindjeri people's history, culture, and aspirations. By embracing these principles, we aim to contribute positively to the preservation of Indigenous heritage and the sustainable development of our projects on this ancient land.
